An elderly woman was taken to the hospital after a fire in Charleston. The fire started about 4:30 at a home in the 2400 block of Washington St. E. on the east side of Charleston. Firefighters say the fire began in the back of the home on the first floor, before spreading up to the second floor and attic. The elderly woman was on the first floor.

A local woman has been arrested and charged after the shooting of a man in Lumberport. According to Sheriff Robert Matheny, 33-year-old Melissa Anne McAtee is charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of David Cottrill. The two are said to have been in a long-term relationship.
A home was destroyed in an explosion that firefighters say, was caused by a residential sized propane tank. The fire happened in the 100 block of Rosewood Way in the Coopers Creek area of Kanawha County about 1:30 Friday morning. No one was injured.
A 16-year-old girl is recovering after being stabbed early Thursday morning at a home in Rand. The incident happened along Raven Drive. Deputies with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office tell WSAZ a man ran to his neighbor's home to call 911. He said a man and woman came into his house and tried to rob him.

Metro 911 says the person who was shot during an apparent home invasion early Tuesday morning was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. It happened in the 500 block of E Street in South Charleston just after midnight.
Law enforcement in Boone County say a person is in custody after stealing a Madison police cruiser and trying to run Sunday night. The Boone County Sheriff’s Department tells WSAZ it was stolen in West Madison while the officer was on a 911 call. Deputies say a pursuit ensued and ended in the Julian area.
Police have arrested two suspects in connection with a string of robberies in the Huntington area. Justin Albert, 31, of Huntington, and Kenneth Dean Jr., 39, of Kenova, were arrested Friday evening.
The interstate is back open in Nitro after a two-vehicle crash. The wreck happened just after 4:30 a.m. at the Nitro/St. Albans bridge. It caused a standstill in the westbound lanes until around 6:00 a.m. Saturday.

Charleston Police detectives are looking for a man considered armed and dangerous following a shooting Saturday afternoon. Police say Harold Battle, 47, from Charleston shot Brandon Hearns, 35, in the leg. Battle is now wanted on malicious wounding charges, as Hearns fights for his life with critical injuries. Police have not been able to interview him yet, because he is undergoing medical procedures and is incapacitated, according to detectives.

Charleston, West Virginia shooting at 1300 block of Renaissance Cir: 1 injured
A man who troopers say shot and injured two law enforcement officers who were responding to a domestic violence call Wednesday evening in Roane County has been arrested. 52-year old Gordon Hoskins, Jr. was arrested shortly after midnight Thursday. Troopers say Hoskins will be charged with attempted murder.

A West Virginia man is accused of assaulting a pregnant woman and injecting her with methamphetamine without her consent. News outlets reported Tuesday that the criminal complaint against 21-year-old Kyle Wilson Stowers says he struck the woman in the head, face and torso and hit her legs with a baseball bat at a Charleston home on Dec. 21. Before fleeing, he injected what the victim says was meth into her arm against her will.

Charleston, West Virginia shooting at 600 block of Park Ave: no casualities
One person was shot in the hand, another in the leg in Charleston. Dispatch tells WSAZ it was an accident. Just after 8:30 Sunday night, the call came in of a shooting in the 900 block of Leslie Road in Charleston.
Crews on Friday night battled a working fire in Clendenin. It happened around 10:30 p.m. along Harper Road in Clendenin. Dispatchers say everyone got out of the house.

Dry Creek, West Virginia shooting at Circle Dr: 1 injured
A man has been found guilty of 2nd degree murder in the beating of another man at a club in 2015. Hayden Drakes, of Huntington, was found guilty Wednesday in the beating death of 25-year-old Brett Powell.
Police are looking for a man wanted on robbery and malicious wounding charges. Matthew Berry is wanted by Charleston Police.
